The Sport

ATHLETIC PERFORMANCE
BUILT FOR THE SPORT.

Athletic performance is force, speed, and the ability to repeat them. Trinity's performance trainers translate sport-science into training that holds up on the field, the court, the mat, or the track.

Who it's for

Built for the people who actually train.

  • High-school and college athletes in offseason or in-season
  • Combat sport athletes building work capacity
  • Adult-rec-league players who want to keep playing for decades
  • Recreational athletes returning from injury

What to expect

Training, programmed.

01

Sport-specific assessment

Movement screen + force production tests + sport demands. The program matches what the sport actually asks of your body.

02

Speed + power blocks

Sprint mechanics, plyometrics, jumps, throws, Olympic-lift derivatives — the work that makes you faster, not just bigger.

03

Conditioning matched to your sport

Aerobic base, anaerobic capacity, repeat-sprint ability — programmed across energy systems your sport actually uses.

04

Injury prevention built in

Asymmetry work, mobility, return-to-play protocols if you're coming back. Trainers who know what gets athletes hurt — and how to avoid it.

How performance is programmed here

Performance training at Trinity is periodized around your season. Off-season is when strength and power are built — heavy lifts on The Floor, jumps and throws, and speed mechanics on The Turf. Pre-season shifts toward sport-specific speed, change of direction and conditioning. In-season the goal is to hold what you built with two short, sharp sessions a week that never leave you sore for a game. Your trainer talks to your sport coach or team strength coach when there is one, so nobody is programming against each other.

The first four weeks

A movement and speed baseline first: a few jumps, a sprint, a change-of-direction test, and a look at how you squat, hinge and land. Then a block that fixes the biggest limiter — usually strength, sometimes mechanics — before layering speed on top. Athletes coming off an injury start with the mobility and rehab trainers and hand back to performance once cleared.

How progress is measured

The tests you started with, re-run every block: jump height, sprint times, agility times, main-lift strength, and the thing your sport actually cares about — a faster first step, a harder shot, a fourth quarter that looks like the first. The Turf handles sleds, sprints and agility; The Floor handles the strength that makes speed possible.

Where they train

The Turf.

Sleds, carries, sprints. Functional work with room to move.

A functional training turf lane inside the West Covina floor. Sled pushes and pulls, loaded carries, sprint and change-of-direction work, and the conditioning finishers that need real length — not a strip of rubber between two machines.

In the room

  • Sleds / prowlers
  • Farmer’s carry handles + loaded-carry implements
  • Battle ropes, medicine balls, slam balls
  • Kettlebells + sandbags
  • Agility ladders, cones, hurdles
  • Plyo boxes

  1. 01 Do Trinity trainers work with high-school and college athletes?

Yes — frequently. Trinity trainers work with athletes across baseball, basketball, football, soccer, volleyball, track, and combat sports. Many parents bring their kids here specifically because the chain-gym alternative doesn't program for actual sport.

  2. 02 What's the difference between athletic performance training and just lifting weights?

Athletic performance training programs power output, movement quality, sport-specific energy systems, and asymmetry correction — alongside strength. Lifting weights builds strength. Performance training builds athletes.

  3. 03 Can adults still benefit from performance training?

Absolutely. Most Trinity performance clients are adults in their 30s, 40s, and 50s who want to keep playing — recreational basketball, surfing, jiu-jitsu, hiking, golf. The training preserves and rebuilds the qualities that decline with age.

  4. 04 Do you do speed and agility work for younger athletes?

Yes. We program sprint mechanics, change-of-direction work, and plyometrics for athletes 14+. For dedicated youth and student-athlete programming by sport (ages 7–18), see our Youth & Student-Athlete Training page — it covers speed, agility, and strength for football, baseball, basketball, soccer, and volleyball.

  5. 05 How does Trinity coordinate with my team trainer or strength trainer?

Closely, when you ask us to. Trainers can communicate with school strength trainers or sport trainers to make sure the work complements, not conflicts. Most clients sync training cycles around competition seasons.

  6. 06 Where does performance training happen at Trinity?

Speed, agility and sled work on The Turf; strength and power on The Floor; both inside the private facility at 1705 W Garvey Ave N, West Covina, open 24/7 by appointment.

  7. 07 Do you train athletes from schools outside West Covina?

Yes — athletes drive in from Covina, Walnut, Glendora, Diamond Bar, La Puente and across the San Gabriel Valley. Sessions are scheduled around school and club calendars.

  8. 08 Who are the Athletic Performance trainers at Trinity Training West Covina?

Trinity's Athletic Performance trainers in West Covina are Robert Ramirez, Ryan Leong, Jose Valdivia, David calzada, Andrea Marin and Christian Herrera — plus 20 more on the full roster. Each is an independent, certified trainer working out of Trinity's private facility at 1705 W Garvey Ave N; you book directly with the trainer you choose.
